Yea I don't keep any fish that need temps in the 80, s but summer I don't check them like I should so that is what I was thinking about I have 300s in 75,s and 150,s in everything else I will start getting lower watts when i recycle them thanks

I use heaters that are a little undersized. 150w in a 75, 25w in a 20. therefore if it does get stuck on, the water wont boil, just get really hot. also heat the room so heaters hopefully aren't running very often.

Sorry to mention the obvious but it depends on the type of fish you are keeping and the temperature of your basement.

If you have Discus or Soda cichlids they will likely die. If you have Gymneogeophagus that might trigger them to spawn.

I know some people who have done the same and then did not get the heaters on when we had a cold spell and ended up with a bad ick breakout.

When it gets warm out I tend to not spend as much time on the fish room feed change water and back out so I was thinking I would just unplug them so I don't have a sticky thermostat and a fish boil
